Lessons from a Pressure Washer

“For by one sacrifice He has made perfect forever those who are being made holy.” (Hebrews 10:14)

So, I’ve found another hobby…like I’m not already busy enough. My husband bought a pressure washer last month from our dear friends who recently opened a new hardware store and I got excited! I’ve always wanted to have our driveway pressure washed. Our home of two years was built in the 1950’s and who knows the last time the driveway was cleaned. I gave it a try over the weekend and needless to say, now I want to do the entire driveway! Unfortunately, this is going to take us awhile and not just because our driveway is pretty long and, on an incline, but because there’s so much dirt caked into the concrete! Not only that, I’m very detailed, which means I want to wash away ALL of the dirt. I’m not content with just doing a general spray like I was able to do with the brick pavers. I want it to look white again, which means I’m going to have to take my time and apply a lot of pressure. It also means I may have to go over it more than once or twice, even though it’s tedious.

As I was spraying, I couldn’t help but think about how intentional the Lord is about removing those stubborn areas of sin in our lives. He has a vision in mind and He is committed to conforming us to the image of Christ (Romans 8:29). Although He already sees us as righteous because of what Christ accomplished for us on the cross, we are all in the process of being sanctified. Praise God that He loves us too much to leave us as we are!

“Being confident of this, that He who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus.” (Philippians 1:6)

Heavenly Father, thank you that according to Ephesians 2:10, we are Your masterpieces. You see us as we will be and You are committed to the process of conforming us into the image of your dear Son. Lord, sometimes that process hurts as the pressure is applied in a variety of ways – whether by Your loving hand, the brokenness of this world or our own stubbornness. Thank You that You are faithful no matter what. Help us to trust You when it’s uncomfortable, knowing that You are for us and not against us. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.

The PraiStones Collection was designed to help you see how God is actively working in your life as well as to look back and praise Him for what He has already done!
