Not today Satan

This week has been an interesting one.

Three women that I am close to and serve alongside weekly, all experienced medical emergencies, with two admitted to the same hospital, on the same day!

The group texts started arriving earlier in the week, sending my phone into a familiar spasm. " --- suffered a stroke and is in the hospital. Please pray for her". " --- was admitted for severe abdominal pain and they are taking her to surgery. Please pray for her. " One of the recipients of these group texts happened to be my third friend that also suffered a medical emergency. She found herself the subject of the same type of group texts later in the week.

My first reaction was total surprise. How could this have happened? I just saw them and everything was fine. Then concern for them flooded my brain. Are they going to be okay? How are their families managing? How is this going to affect their jobs? But then, a different realization occurred to me. Could this be an attack from the enemy? Could he be targeting my friends? And why is God allowing it to happen?

It wasn't until my third friend was affected, did I fully grasp what or whom we were dealing with.

So what do I do? What can we do?

We can pray.

Finally, be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power. Put on the full armor of God so that you can take your stand against the devil's schemes. For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms. Therefore put on the full armor of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything, to stand. Stand firm then, with the belt of truth buckled around your waist, the breastplate of righteousness in place, and with your feet fitted with the readiness that comes from the gospel of peace. In addition to all this, take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one. Take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God. And pray in the Spirit on all occasion with all kinds of prayers and requests. With this in mind, be alert and always keep on praying for all the saints.

Ephesians 6: 10-18 NIV

We are called to be vigilant, we are called to be strong, and we are called to pray for our friends and loved ones and engage in this invisible battle the way that God has instructed us to.

It's not by my power thankfully. It's His mighty power that will defeat the enemy and rescue my friends.

He reached down from on high and took hold of me; he drew me out of deep waters. He rescued me from my powerful enemy, from my foes, who were too strong for me. They confronted me in the day of my disaster, but the LORD was my support. He brought me out into a spacious place; he rescued me because he delighted in me.

Psalm 18: 16:19 NIV

The enemy wants us to believe that there is nothing we can do. He wants us to feel helpless and hopeless and direct the blame anywhere but at him. We are not effective in battle this way and he knows it.

Well, not today Satan.

I am lifting my friends up in prayer to God almighty and I am using my prayer journal to make sure that I don't get distracted. I wrote down their names. I wrote a prayer for each of them and I wrote several scriptures to pray over their situations and I am giving it to God.

I pursued my enemies and overtook them; I did not turn back till they were destroyed. I crushed them so that they could not rise; they fell beneath my feet. You armed me with strength for battle; you made my adversaries bow at my feet. You made my enemies turn their backs in flight, and I destroyed my foes.

Psalm 18:37-40

Who else is ready to get God involved in the battle?

Heavenly Father,

Thank you for fighting for us, and for being our unfailing rescuer. Help us to be vigilant and strong, and to put on our full armor. and remind us to pray for each other more and more. In Jesus name we pray. Amen.
